The tentative touch of spring...

I went walking today - nothing special but the was a quality to the sunlight that was different . You know those days when the sun touches you in a way it has not for far too long. It caresses you with with its heat and the promise that spring is coming. The snow will melt and the grass will turn green. Trees will swell out with leafy energy and flowers will bloom.

There is a comfort in the cycle of the seasons but a reminder too. Tomorrow's promise carries the past in its heart, each day the measure shortens as the years pile up behind us. There is as yet no melancholy but an urgency pushes me to embrace all that I have and all that I am and to savour the simple joy of the day that stretches out before me.

I feel the urge to share this time in conversation but face-to-face. My phone is handy so I call a friend and we agree to meet for coffee. No special revelations but better still a few moments of friendship and the joy of a sunny spring day.
