Summer holidays...

Tomorrow morning I hit the road for a long and winding journey back to Newfoundland. My truck i loaded up with the various things I have managed to accumulate in my two years back in Calgary. I am leaving a few things behind for my return in the fall.

This marks a significant change in my life in part because my dear friend and partner Margo is coming with me. We have a rather unique relationship friends and lovers but with a difference. Margo respects the gypsy in me and understands that I may not be around much over the next couple of years. In December I hope to be heading to Newfoundland for a fairly long stint as I intend to begin my field work for my PhD. I really do not know how long that will actually entail. It will be what it will be. Even after that I am uncertain as to my next destination. I may find work in St. John's but I may also wander much farther, maybe overseas - possibly for years.

Margo has roots here in Calgary family, career, home. I feel mostly rootless and even the thought makes me restless. We are not simply a study in contrasts. It is far more complicated but also wonderful. In some measure she is the Yin to my Yang and having her in my life the past two years has been profoundly nurturing. I am at peace sometimes in her presence - a state I find very difficult to achieve.

So now we are off on and adventure, winding our way through the Northeastern US and then back into Canada. We will be dropping in on family as we go starting with Margo's brother Brian, then my sister Mollie and finally my brother Hugh.

There likely will be few post along the way. I will have my netbook "Life on the Move" with me but don't expect to have a connection until Indiana and then Toronto. But stay tuned.
