Sharing beauty...

Beauty appears in many forms if we only look for it. When we do we also have the opportunity to share it. Just this week I was talking with some people about the Perseids, the annual meteor shower that peaks mid-August. Some of the group knew of it but one did not.

I ran into him the next day and he was quite pleased as he had gone out to a local beach and had seen his first real meteor shower. Thinking about it after I realized that there really are simple but profound gifts that we can share with each other. They cost nothing and yet are priceless.

On being...

It may seem an odd thing to claim but I have a sense of being here in St. John's that is really unique to this place. I have a stronger sense of being as if the integrity of my being is more cohesive here or perhaps more coherent or both. When i was living here two years ago I began to write bits of a memoir. Today I began again but this time I managed to get below the surface to find another way of voicing my past. I'd like to believe it is more interesting.

Maybe it is because it feels more like I am telling a story. It feels more vocal than what I had written before. If that is true then it really comes from that renewed sense of myself the person I only encounter when I am here, in St. John's. Over the next few months I will have the opportunity to test that hypothesis as I flip back and forth between here and Calgary.
